Silke Schelenz was born and brought up in West Berlin and studied medicine before settling in the UK where she is working as a doctor and academic in East Anglia. She has been drawn to the arts since childhood, in particular printmaking. Silke started off with lino cuts and has been inspired by the 1930’s expressionists group ‘Die Bücke’. Since joining Sudbourne Park Printmakers in Suffolk in 2008 she has been captivated by the etching process which she sees as a constant challenge.
Her subjects are often based on her photographic images that she collects over the year with a focus on people, their silhouettes and shadows, as well as prominent landscapes. Silke’s work seeks to capture an emotional state, sometimes unexplained mystery, mixed in with a sense of unmasked melancholy often unknown even to herself.
Her work has been exhibited at a number of local, regional and international exhibitions and galleries including the Norfolk Open Studios, The Forum in Norwich, The Britten-Pears Foundation, Gallery SCA Shrewsbury and Galerie Stirner in Berlin.
